Throwing Castoffs (I-IV)

Four groups of 16 images, archival inkjet prints
2021
Approximately 36” x 48”

Created specifically for the exhibition We Do Not Work Alone, curate by Jesse Birch at the Nanaimo Art Gallery. I was invited to respond to the gallery’s collection of west coast ceramics. These transitory structures are made from the castoffs of clay throwing sessions where the vessels were unsuccessful. Quickly stacked and photographs, they are a series of gestures that capture the clay in it’s pliable state, reinforcing that these are only temporary objects, far from the life- lasting pottery found in the gallery.
